When I started doing this webcomic I knew from the start that I want to give all readers the opportunity to directly influence the story. Silence Wanderers is interactive in a way that readers will be able to cast a vote in almost every episode to decide what happens next. In episode 2, on page 15 we had first moment like that.
How does this feature actually works and how great impact can it already have on my already written scripts?
I have fully prepared first 6 episodes, with all interactive checkpoints marked. I did not go in length to write two non-linear version of story if readers decide something opposite to my scripts. I count on the readers to make the right choice. On this first interactive moment my faith was rewarded.
In script young Native American runs away. If the readers chose FIGHT, the impact would be huge. Our Native American character, about who we don’t know much not even his name (you’ll get to know him really good very soon), would draw the revolver tucked onto his belt and change fire with officer aiming at him. He has 6 bullets against 15 and he has to draw really fast. Odds were not in his favor. He would get wounded and he would miss the officer and hit one of the guys standing behind the officer. Although the man would survive the gunshot wound, Native American character would have to live with the belief that he DID kill a man. That consequence would tear him apart.
I know that Fight is always more fun then Flight, but all decisions have their consequences, I’m glad that you did not put already troubled young man into even more trouble.
Until next page, cheers!
